About

I’m Scott Weiss, CFP®, a fee-only financial advisor based in Mahopac, New York. I work with pre-retirees and retirees to help them think through the financial decisions that come with transitioning into and living in retirement.

This blog is where I share how I think about those decisions.

How I Approach Planning

Most people don’t need more information—they need clarity.

Retirement planning isn’t just about numbers or investment performance. It’s about thinking about how your financial resources align with the life you want to live. That often means working through trade-offs, asking better questions, and making thoughtful decisions over time.

My goal is to help simplify that process.

What I Focus On

I typically work with people who are:

  • Within 5–10 years of retirement
  • Recently retired and adjusting to a new phase of life
  • Looking to structure their savings into a retirement plan
  • Wanting to delegate investment management and focus on bigger-picture decisions

The work often centers around:

  • Retirement timing
  • Income planning
  • Investment strategy
  • Navigating life transitions

My Background

Before becoming a financial advisor, I spent over a decade as an art director at Money Magazine and Mutual Funds Magazine. My role was to help communicate complex financial ideas in a way that was clear and useful to readers.

That experience still shapes how I approach my work today.

I focus on:

  • Explaining things simply
  • Helping people stay organized and focused
  • Helping clients make thoughtful decisions over time”

A Bit More Personal

I was born and raised in Mahopac, where I now live with my wife and our two sons.

Like many of the people I work with, I understand what it’s like to balance family, work, and long-term goals, and how those priorities evolve over time.
